If you think making money through photography is reserved only for the professionals, then you better think again. An app, called the Clashot app, is designed to earn money by selling your best photos online.
But can you really make money with the pictures you have taken or is it just a scam to get free photos from you? Let’s find out in this review of the Clashot app. First, let us know what Clashot is.

What is the Clashot App?
Clashot is a mobile app that allows you to make money with the photos that you have taken using your camera. You just need to upload your photos to the app then the app will upload it to the Depositphotos website.
You will earn a commission for every one of your photos that sell at Depositphotos. Clashot will pay you a percentage of the proceeds from the sale of your photo.
The app is basically a photobank in your pocket. Take pictures, upload it on the app, then sell it at Despotiphotos, and then get paid.
You will just need to download the app, either in the Apple Store or Google Play Store, register, then you can already start uploading and selling your photos.
Who Uses the Clashot App?
The app is used by two types of people, they are amateur and professional photographers looking to earn some money online, while the others are advertisers and companies looking for affordable but quality photos.
For advertisers and companies, Clashot provides them with access to great and good quality photos that they can use for their advertisements or other marketing materials at an affordable price.
Whatever photo they are looking for, Clashot will likely have them. Companies can also customize the types of pictures that they need. They would just need to send the app an email and describe the kind of photo they are looking for.
Clashot will provide them with the pictures coming from different photograpers to match the description and the subject area that they provided.
If there aren’t any particular photos that the advertiser or company is requesting, Clashot will put them in the offers that photographers can complete.
The app will help advertisers come up with great offers to get the kind of photo that they need for their campaign.
For photographers, Clashot gives them an opportunity to make money taking pictures. They would just need to download the app, register, verify their profile, and upload their photos.
Once it has passed Clashot’s standards, the app will then upload it to the Depositphotos website, where it can be seen by millions of people and advertisers looking for pictures they can purchase for their campaigns.
If your photo is selected, you will earn a commission from the sale. Clashot will pay you a percentage of the proceeds they earned from selling your photo.
How You Earn Money At Clashot?
As mentioned above, you will be able to earn money for every one of your photos that are sold on the Depositphotos website or its partner sites. The mobile app will be paying you a commission for each of your photos that are sold.
Clashot said that you, as a photo author, can expect to get royalties of around 44% from each sale of your pictures.
Since Depositphotos only sell the rights to use the photo, and not the actual photo, your photo can be purchased multiple times. The average amount that you can earn per sale of the photo is at $0.44.
If advertisers or companies decide to purchase your photo with extended license, there’s a possibility that you can earn up to $50 for one sale. You can cash out your earnings via PayPal or Skrill.
You can cash out your earnings once your balance has exceeded $50. The beauty of this app is that your approved photos are made available at the Depositphotos website and they are likely to stay there for many years.
This will allow you to earn residual income for years to come, even if the photo uploaded is already a couple of years old.
The key thing here, of course, is that your photo would need to pass certain standards before they are made available to be sold.
Clashot won’t just allow any photo to be uploaded at Depositphotos, as they only want the very best and quality photos to be available for sale.
Clashot recommends that you upload high-quality, or at least decent-quality photos that focus on interesting subject matter and has no technical problems, on to your account.
There’s no particular type of photo that they are requiring, so they can be portraits, scenery, travel and food photos, and so on.
All the photos uploaded will be reviewed by moderators to see if they meet the criteria needed for the photo to be up for sale. The app said that the main thing their moderators are looking for is the commercial value of the picture.
They want to make sure that the photo to be uploaded will really sell and it can attract a wide range of buyers. These photos could be art photography, photos with interesting plots, photos from newsworthy events, and so on.
Clashot also has a list of things they don’t accept in photos that are supposed to be for sale. These things include photos that are too small, screenshot photos, pictures that show scenes of cruelty, photos of disgusting food, and many more.
Check out this page for the complete list of requirements.
If you plan on uploading a picture with recognizable people in it, you will also need to upload a model release document that is signed by every recognizable person in the picture.
This will allow the photo to be used for commercial purposes. Clashot moderators will usually take seven days or more to check the photos that you have uploaded to see if they pass the standards needed to sell them.
The app will send a notification via Messages to let you know that your photo is available for sale already. Other than uploading photos, Clashot also has offers that you can complete earning more money.
There are times when Clashot would suggest that its members upload a particular type of photo and add certain keywords to its description.
The suggested photos basically come from advertisers who are looking for a particular photo to use for their campaign.
Other offers are made specifically for certain users belonging in a certain area, while others are available to everyone worldwide. The offer will usually last for a week or more.
You can use pictures you already have for offers, even if they are not approved to be sold. You just need to include the offer hashtag mentioned in the offer description when you upload your photo.
It is easy to register to Clashot, as you will just need to provide a username a password and your email address. Once registered, you can start uploading your photo to the app.
But to become a seller, your account would need to be verified. This is to avoid frauds trying to claim the uploaded photos as their own.
You would just need to complete your profile and upload a government-issued ID to your account. Once you are verified, your accepted photos can now be uploaded to Depositphotos and be sold.
What I Liked about Clashot
Now that we have an idea of what Clashot is, it is time to discuss what I liked about the app.
- The main thing that I liked about the app is that it allows amateur photographers a chance to make money with their pictures. A lot of times, you would think that only professional photographers can earn money by taking pictures, but Clashot changes all that.
- I also liked that Clashot will allow you to earn residual income for years to come, as your approved photos can still be purchased, as long as they are still uploaded in Depositphotos or its partner sites.
- One of its key features is its Instagram like community, where you can follow other users and they can follow you as well. The more popular your photos are, the more attention it can get, making it quicker for the app to verify and check the photos in your account.
- It is free and easy to register to the app, as you will only need a user name, your email, and a password. You can even register via Facebook or Google Plus.
What I Disliked about Clashot
Of course, there are also other things that I didn’t like about Clashot, which I’ll discuss here.
- The income is not guaranteed, as you will only get paid once your photos sell. Even if they get approved to be placed on sale, there’s still no guarantee they will sell, so don’t expect to start making money right away.
- The average income per sale of the photo is also very low, as Clashot said you can likely expect to earn around $0.44 per sale of your picture. There’s a possibility to earn more, but that’s the average earning, so don’t expect to get rich from this app.
- The cash out is a bit high, as Clashot requires money that exceeds $50 to be able to cash out via PayPal or Skrill.
Is the Clashot App Legit or a Scam?
From what I can see, the Clashot app is very much a legitimate site, which can allow you to make money by taking photos.
The key thing to understand here, though, is that the income is not guaranteed. If you join and think that making money is automatic once you start uploading pictures, then you might really think that this is a scam.
But that’s not how the app works, as you will first need to upload high-quality photos that will need to pass certain requirements to be able to be approved for sale.
Once it is approved, your photos would then have to actually be purchased before you can earn any money from it. As long as you know how it works, then you won’t think that earning here is automatic.
Do I Recommend Clashot?
Yes, I actually recommend the Clashot app, considering that it is a good way to make some money online, especially if you are a photographer or photography is your hobby.
As long as you don’t expect your income to be guaranteed or that you will become rich here, you won’t have a problem using the app.
Now, you won’t just enjoy your hobby of photography, you can also start to possibly make money out of it as well.
