Going to college should actually be quite exciting. Actually, not quite, for many Americans. As a result of our subprime mortgage crisis and other monetary disasters, going to college is now synonymous with being debt-free. Well, that s actually life for over 44 million Americans today still paying off all their student loans. Believe it or not, students owe the school system over $1 trillion in student loans accrued during their time in school.
This debt is not just a slap on the financial ego of young adults, either. For the most part, this enormous expense of student loans is completely unnecessary. Scholarships are one of the easiest and fastest ways to get paid to go to school. Most scholarships require no collateral and only a simple application process. That means there is no need for excessive student loan debt.
But to get paid to go to school for free, you do have to start digging through all those student loans already behind you. If you are like most, this will start with your current employer. Sadly, many employers these days are cutting back on the number of hours their employees can work, or they are requiring more work from students as part of their hiring incentives. But the good news is that hundreds of thousands of American college students are getting paid to go to school online through their university’s online programs. And, even more, there are now several thousand programs that offer federal student loans, Pell Grants, and other federal assistance to finance the costs of tuition and other educational expenses.
So if you have student loans, you may want to dig into those even further. But don’t stop there. You should also look at getting federal grants. The Pell grant is one of the biggest federal grant programs available. Even getting a grant is a lot better than getting student loans, because unlike loans, grants never have to be paid back.
There are also various professional organizations that provide financial assistance to students who need it. For example, there are several professional associations, which provide grants to professionals who want to go back to college or continue their education after graduating. These professional organizations tend to specialize in specific fields, such as nursing, teaching, and the like. Therefore, if you are interested in pursuing graduate studies in psychology, for example, you could get a scholarship from the American Psychological Association.
There are other scholarships and bursaries as well. You could look around for private organizations, state funds, or even your employer’s company retirement plan. Sometimes, companies will provide tuition reimbursement if you work for them for a certain period of time. But the downside to getting these is that you will have to pay the tuition and money for books yourself. This means that you will have to save up for a long-term repayment.
As you can see, there are plenty of ways to pay for school for free. If you don’t have student loans, consider getting one of the government financial aid programs. If you do have student loans, consider looking into getting federal assistance, either by getting a federal grant, or by looking into private scholarships and bursaries. And if all else fails, you can always look into your employer’s pension plan.
Paying for school can be tough, but it doesn’t have to. There are many options to look into in order to make sure that you get the degree you need to land the job you want or increase your chances of getting hired in the future. Take some time to explore the many grants, loans, and financial assistance that you’re eligible to receive. There’s no limit on the number of grants and scholarships that you can apply for or receive, so take advantage of this today!
