A lot of people dream of losing weight to achieve that flat tummy or six-pack abs and also provide that added confidence when going to the beach or taking photos.
However, only a few people are really able to achieve this goal, as the majority simply just end up finding excuses not to continue or lack the motivation to do so.
Heck, some people don’t even get to start dieting or exercising to lose weight as they quit before they start.
There are various reasons why this is the case, but the likely main culprit is a lack of discipline and motivation to maintain their weight loss program.
This is why there are a lot of companies and programs out there that are designed to help people lose weight and achieve the body that they want.
Some of these programs even incorporate a money-making opportunity to help people earn some income on the side.
One such opportunity is promoted by a company called Optavia. It offers products and services that are designed to help you lose weight and they also provide an opportunity to make money.
The amount of money you can possibly make is dependent on a lot of factors, so it’s hard to gauge how much you could likely earn.
But is Optavia really a legitimate opportunity to lose weight and make money as well? Or is it just a scam that you should avoid?

Optavia is A Legitimate Opportunity To Lose Weight and Make Money
Optavia is a company that offers people an opportunity to lose weight and make some money as well. They provide products and services that are geared to help you achieve your ideal weight and the kind of body you want.
They also incorporate an opportunity to make money through their coaching and community. The company is owned by Medifast and was launched in 2003.
It was previously called Take Shape For Life and it was rebranded by Optavia in 2016 or 2017. From what I’ve seen so far, I can say that this opportunity is legitimate.
The company does offer products and services that can likely help you lose weight, as well as an opportunity to make money by being one of their Health Coaches.
Despite Optavia being legit, this doesn’t mean that there aren’t any issues or complaints about this opportunity.
One of the main issues about this opportunity is that the products and services they offer are a bit expensive.
Another issue about Optavia is that their supposed Health Coaches are not really experts in health and losing weight.
I also saw complaints that this program is not really designed to help you maintain and sustain your weight loss. I’ll discuss these different issues in more detail as we progress further in this review of Optavia.
Who Uses Optavia?
Optavia is designed for two types of people with one being those looking for help or assistance when it comes to losing weight. The other type are people who are looking for opportunities to make some money on the side.
For people who are looking to lose weight, the company provides several products and services to help them lose weight, promising lifelong transformation.
The company states that their programs and products are scientifically created. This is to ensure that people will be able to lose weight healthily. They also claim that the food substitutes they offer are delicious, nutritious, and effective.
Aside from losing weight, Optavia provides a money making opportunity. You can make money by becoming one of the company’s Health Coaches.
I’ll discuss these opportunities in more detail, as well as the different products that this company is offering in the next section.
What Does Optavia Really Offer?
Optavia is a company that provides an opportunity for people to both lose weight and make money on the side.
The company offers a variety of different products and services that can help you to lose some weight. The main products that the company offers are called Fuelings.
They are basically meal replacements that the company has developed to provide you with food that is said to be healthier and will help you lose weight.
Optavia said that their products contain high-quality proteins, probiotics and it’s gluten-free, it’s also high in fiber, and doesn’t contain any GMOs, artificial colorings, flavorings, preservations, or sweeteners.
The company has more than 60 Fuelings products to choose from and they say that they are all backed by science.
Aside from the Fuelings product, Optavia has several low calorie meal plans. You choose the plan best suited to you and then you purchase the fuelings products that are part of that plan.
But as mentioned above, Optavia also offers an opportunity to make money on the side and that is through their Health Coach program.
The company has a team of Health Coaches that can supposedly help and guide you during the weight loss process.
But these coaches are not health professionals that specialize in nutrition and weight loss. They’re just regular people that have become the company’s Independent Distributors to help promote the products and services.
You see, Optavia is a multilevel marketing company and their distributors are called Health Coaches. To be a member you need to purchase a business kit first, which costs $199.
It comes with products, tools, information, and 12 month free access to the Optavia website and more. Once you become a coach, you’ll also undergo a 1-day training at Villanova University to make you a certified coach.
Once done, you can start making money as a Health Coach. There are three ways to earn with the company and the first one is the commissions you earn whenever your downlines purchase products.
The company’s compensation focuses more on product purchase, which is why they don’t provide earnings when you recruit people.
The number of commissions you earn will depend on your total revenue. The company also has ranks you can achieve, where you can earn additional commissions and payouts.
Your rank will depend on your total revenue and on the number of downlines you have. You don’t have to personally enroll all your downlines, you can train Health Coaches under you to grow their team as well.
This will enable you to grow faster and rank faster as well. Once you achieve the rank of Regional Director and at least one downline becomes Executive Director, you get to earn the Business Leader Income.
This is basically a reward that you get for developing not just coaches under your team, but leaders as well.
Optavia also has a community, where you can meet and discuss issues with other Health Coaches and leaders. The company conducts regular meetings and events that bring together all of their coaches.
What Are People Saying about Optavia?
When it comes to reviews about Optavia a lot of people agree that you can really lose weight and make money with this company.
The products and programs they have can really help you lose weight and the opportunity is viable enough for people to earn income from it.
However, there are still some issues and concerns about Optavia and chief among them is that the products the company offers are expensive.
This is especially true if you plan to follow the dietary plans or programs as you will have to buy their products in bulk, which can be pricey for some.
If you follow the 5&1 Program, you’d need to spend at least $329 a month purchasing the kit, which contains all the products you’ll need for 30 days.
Another issue with Optavia is that their supposed Health Coaches are not really health experts. Sure there is 1 day of training which is included in the membership, but that doesn’t make them experts in health and nutrition. They will most likely only be experts in the company’s products.
So it’s important that you also do your own research and ask a real specialist before proceeding with any dietary program or plan that the supposed Health Coach promotes to you.
Some people have even complained that their Health Coach focused more on convincing them to be a coach rather than their weight loss progress.
Speaking of losing weight, the last issue with this opportunity is that it’s weight loss program is not really sustainable. Yes you can get quick weight loss results but keeping it off is harder People find it hard to transition from Optavia back to normal eating habits.
The reason for this is that Optavia focuses only on its weight loss plan and fuelings. The need for exercise is reinforced but there is a little information on how to order from restaurant menus, choosing normal food from the supermarket, eating in social situations and on holidays etc.
There is also concern that the fuelings products are highly processed.
What I Like about Optavia
Now that we know what Optavia is and what they are able to offer, it’s time to discuss what I like about this opportunity.
- The first thing that I like about Optavia is that their compensation plan is simple and easy to understand. Unlike a lot of MLM companies out there, this company doesn’t have a confusing compensation plan. Sure, they also have the rankings, but it is easy to understand how to achieve them and there’s no downline level or tiers that you need to worry about.
- Speaking of the compensation plan, I also like that Optavia’s plan focuses on product movements. You don’t earn any commissions whenever you recruit people to the program. You only earn when they purchase the company’s products. This is good because focusing more on recruitment will make the company a pyramid scheme, which is illegal.
- It’s also good that Optavia offers a 30-day money-back guarantee. This allows you to get your money back in case you change your mind and decide that the product they offer is not really for you. This is good because not everyone will like the taste of the meal replacement that they offer. So in case, you don’t like its taste, you can ask for your money back as long as it is within 30-days.
What I Dislike about Optavia
Of course, not everything about Optavia is good and dandy, as there are also several things about this opportunity that I didn’t like.
- I don’t like that Optavia calls their independent distributors Health Coachs. This is because it misleads people into thinking the coach they are talking to is an expert in the field of health and nutrition. In reality, they are just distributors and they’re only an expert when it comes to the company’s products. It would be better to call them distributors to avoid any confusion.
- I also don’t like that Optavia’s weight loss program promises to provide lifelong transformation. Yes you can get quick weight loss results initially but sustaining that appears difficult for many people. The transition back to eating normal foods often results in weight gain as they are not equipped with enough knowledge to keep it off.
- I’m also not happy with the expense of Optavia’s products and the fact that they tend to be highly processed.
Do I Recommend Optavia?
After learning more about what Optavia is and what it can really bring to the table, I would say that this is an opportunity that I don’t really recommend.
Yes, their products work and can really help you lose weight. You can also earn money from this opportunity, but it won’t be easy.
It’s not really easy to make consistent money with MLM opportunities and Optavia is not really any different. Not only will you have to be good at selling and marketing, but you also need to be good at motivating people.
To really make money in MLM, building your downlines is the best way to do it. Not only will you need to be good at convincing people to join you, but you also need to be good at motivating them to perform well.
If you’re only good at selling and marketing, you won’t really make a lot of money with this opportunity. This is also the same if you are only good at recruiting.
To really succeed in MLM, all three should be present. This is why only a few people really succeed in MLM opportunities. I believe there are better ways to make money.
