Want to earn some extra cash on the side to maybe pay off some debt, credit card payments, a vacation or simply just to help out with the odd bill around the house?
Maybe you want a career change? Maybe something to allow you to stay at home with the kids?
If this is something you want, then I’ve got the ticket for you.
When I started my online journey to make money, I not only craved a change in career, but I wanted to work for myself and be there for my children while they grew up.
I didn’t want to be the dad who looked up from his desk at work to see a twenty something year old in front of him saying “Hi Dad” and then realizing that I didn’t even know my child.
I wanted to be there when they went to school for the first time, when they had special events at school, the school prom, holidays, first driving lesson, etc, and because of the first and fifth option below, I was able to do just that.
So let’s get started.

1. Start a Profitable Blog
I know you’ve heard it before, and well, if you haven’t started a blog to make money, then I guess you need to hear it again.
Yep, I get it.
It sounds like a lot of work, and honestly, in the beginning, it is a lot of work to get things setup and running.
But if you weigh up the effort you put into your blog, against the benefits / freedoms it affords you, then your hesitation will disappear.
There is literally no comparison to living a life of your own design, as opposed to working for someone who employs you to help with the design of their life.
I steered clear of starting a blog for years and years, and, probably, for similar reasons as you.
You see, for me, I just didn’t get it.
I didn’t really understand how writing a bunch of words was going to translate into money.
Furthermore, I didn’t like writing, and … I was bad at it. Double whammy.
But …
I kept running into the same message, (from multiple sources), over and over again, how people were making money with their blogs, and, after a while, with the evidence stacking up, I had to reassess my stance on blogging and what it was really about.
So once I took the plunge, and started seeing positive results for myself, my view on blogging changed.
Overtime, I became a better writer, and well, I kinda, like blogging, now.
Funny how earning a few dollars can change a persons perspective. 🙂
Anyway, to cut a long story short, now I earn a full-time living blogging.
Not all blogging strategies work, so if you’ve already got a blog and it’s not making money for you, then your blogging strategy could be wrong.
If you need help making your first sale, then I recommend this course.
Conversely, if you don’t have a blog, then consider starting one as soon as you can. It’s cheap to get started, and you can start one in less than twenty minutes see this guide.
When I think about all the money I could have made over the years, I wish that I had started a blog sooner.
Don’t make the same mistake as me.
2. Proofreading
Proofreading has become more and more popular online these days, simply because companies have seen the benefits in outsourcing proof reading jobs as opposed to having in house proof readers.
Some companies don’t have the budget to employ someone full-time to proof read, so having access to a wide variety of proof readers allows them to meet their business requirements without the absorbent overheads.
Proofreading in the more traditional sense, found it’s roots in publishing houses, where it was the last opportunity to make changes to documents before being published.
They would check for things like comparing proofs against printed versions of manuscripts, formatting of pages, page numbers, headers, etc. that will be included in the final edition.
But, these days, it’s less complicated.
Just read a couple of documents, make sure the spelling and grammar is correct and Voilà, you’re good to go.
If you love reading and have an eye for detail, then this could be a good side gig for you.
Proofreading sounds like a pretty easy gig – right?
If you want a road map and lessons on how to get started with proof reading, then I recommend you check out Proofreadanywhere.
You can earn up to $40,000 a year.
3. Virtual Book Keeping
If you’re good at book keeping then this could be a lucrative gig for you to consider.
I’m really bad at book keeping, so I hire someone to do my book keeping for me, and if yours truly is paying for this service, then there’s definitely a market for it.
So if book keeping fits in your “wheel house” then this could be a good side job for you.
It appears to be a lucrative side job as well, and can pay anywhere from $60+ per hour.
4. Transcription Jobs
This is another very popular way for people to make money on the side as it doesn’t require any travel and can be done from home.
There’s not too much to know about this type of side job, other than what is probably already apparent.
You simply transcribe audio into text.
If you’re a keen listener and have good typing skills then this could be a good revenue stream to explore.
If you want to learn how to start a side hustle as a transcriptionist, then I recommend this free 7 part mini course at TranscribeAnywhere.
5. Get Paid To Recommend Products
Affiliate Marketing is one of the more popular ways to make money online from home.
If you don’t know anything about Affiliate Marketing, then in it’s simplest form, you are promoting or recommending other peoples products or services.
You probably promote other peoples products on a daily basis without even being aware of it.
Why not get paid for it.
If a person buys a product or service off of your recommendation then you receive a commission.
This commission can vary depending on the price point of the products, whether it’s a physical or digital product and the structure of the affiliate program.
Commissions range from 4% for some physical products to 75% for digital products (info products).
The benefits of Affiliate Marketing is that you don’t hold any inventory, you don’t have to create the products and you don’t have to provide support for the products.
All you have to do is to get people to look at the products.
If you’re an avid consumer of products or services and have opinions on them, then recommending other peoples products and services, could be a good way for you to make money.
Some affiliate marketers are earning $100,000 per month.

6. Lime
It never ceases to amaze me how you can literally earn money from the most unexpected sources.
Imagine getting paid to charge up electric scooters.
Starting up a business that rents out electric scooters for people to use, is genius, but what’s even more genius is solving one of the biggest problems with this business model, and that is, making sure scooters are being constantly charged up.
Lime does this by allowing people, who they nickname – Lime Juicers, (who don’t have to be users of scooters), to take the scooters home and charge them up.
They pay from $5 to 15 per scooter.
But wait, how do you find scooters that need recharging?
Lime, has an app that identifies the location of scooters that need recharging you simply have to get them and charge them up at home.
Once charged ,you can release them as the nearest Limehub for users to pick them up to be used again.
They pay you on the same day.
7. Bird
This is another “get paid” to charge up electric scooters side hustle.
Like Lime Scooters they have an app that will help you to locate scooters to be recharged.
Nicknamed as Bird Chargers, you follow the same process as Lime and release the scooters at the nearest Bird Nest (the equivalent of Lime Hub).
A single charge can take anywhere from 4 to 5 hours if charging from 0%.
Some companies like Lime will give you up to 4 charging cables so you can charge up to 4 scooters at a time.
Simply, plug them in at night and wake up the next morning and drop them off at your near nest / hub.
8. Field agent
Imagine, taking picture of products, gather product information found on shop shelves or reviewing products. Now imagine getting paid to do this.
These types of jobs are periodic for businesses, so investing in a full-time person to undertake this type of job doesn’t make a lot of sense, but outsourcing this type of work is a more sensible approach.
Field Agent is primarily the “middle man” hooking up companies to people who are willing to get paid to do this type of work.
It’s not hard work, and I can think of worst things to do, but if you’re willing to do the odd job here and there or maybe time a job when you got time to kill, then this could be a good option for you.
It worth exploring in any case.
You can get paid anywhere from $3 to $12 per job.
9. Gig Walk
This is a similar side hustle to Field Agent in that you get odds jobs to do.
You sign up with an app and they give you an app to use
You go around to different businesses checking price tags, take photos or videos etc.
They pay up to $60 per hour to test apps and websites.
They pay daily.
All of these side hustles offer reasonable ways for you to make money on the side. Let me know in the comments below if you have experience with any of the side hustles I mentioned above, both good or bad.
Your experience might be helpful to someone.
