ProofreadingPal Review: Legit Proofreading Job?

Making money online is a popular trend right now, especially as a lot of people are not earning enough from their primary income to cover all of their expenses.

Fortunately, there are a lot of different money-making opportunities available on the internet. There are thousands of companies and websites out there offering opportunities for you to earn.

A lot of these opportunities can supplement your main income, while some of them can even replace it. One such opportunity that you can likely encounter comes from a company called ProofreadingPal.

It’s a company that offers proofreading and editing services to businesses or individuals. The company uses freelancers to provide these services.

As a freelancer for ProofreadingPal, you get paid for every job that you complete. The company says that their proofreaders and editors typically earn about $500 to $3,000 a month.

But is this opportunity to make money legitimate or is it just another scam that you should avoid?

ProofreadingPal Provides A Legitimate Opportunity to Make Money

ProofreadingPal is a company that offers a proofreading and editing service for any type of document.

Founded in 2010, the company hires freelancers to proofread and edit documents from clients. As a freelancer, you get paid per completed job.

From what I’ve seen so far, I can say that this opportunity is legitimate. The company has been around for close to 10 years and they have an A+ rating from the Better Business Bureau.

They also have a good reputation from the business community, so you know what they are offering is very  much legit.

Of course, this doesn’t mean that there aren’t any issues or complaints with ProofreadingPal. One of the issues with this opportunity is that it is not available to everyone.

There are also complaints from clients about experiencing poor service and complaints with regards to how expensive the company’s services are.

I’ll discuss these complaints and issues in more detail as we progress further in this review of ProofreadingPal.

Who Uses ProofreadingPal?

ProofreadingPal is designed for two groups with one being businesses and individuals who have documents that need proofreading and editing.

They accept all kinds of documents and their pricing will depend greatly on how much time the client gives for the document to be completed. For example, if they want a 24-hour turnaround then they should expect to pay more per word.

The other group are people who are looking for opportunities to make some money online.

You can become one of their freelance proofreader and editor and get paid per job that you complete. Applying to be a freelancer is free, you just have to meet their requirements and pass the screening.

In the next section, I’ll discuss in more detail how ProofreadingPal works and what you need to do to become a freelancer with them.

How Does ProofreadingPal Work?

ProofreadingPal is a company that offers a proofreading and editing service to clients who need them. They accept different kinds of documents to proofread and edit.

The company hires freelancers to do the proofreading and editing work. They pay freelancers per completed job. It’s free to become a freelancer, you just need to meet certain requirements and pass the screening.

The major requirements the company is looking for is that applicants should be working for, or at least, enrolled as a graduate or postgraduate at an accredited U.S. university.

For graduates and postgraduate applicants, the minimum GPA required to apply is 3.5. It’s also required that you have a graduate degree with a minimum of 5 years of professional proofreading and editing experience.

Other requirements are the ability to work independently and meet deadlines, exceptional time management skills, and Google search skills.

You also need experience with using popular writing styles like APA, MLA, CMS, AP, and CSE, as well as proofreading and editing academic papers in different studies.

As for equipment, you need at least a Microsoft Word 2007 (or higher), a Windows XP, Vista, or Windows 7 (or higher), and at least an Adobe Standard or Foxit Standard.

If you meet all the requirements, you can apply on the ProofreadingPal website. After filling out the application form, the company will contact you in 5 – 10 days for the next step of the process.

The next step is to undergo a comprehensive and timed examination. If you pass that, you will be accepted as part of the company’s team of freelancers.

The beauty of this opportunity is that you are not required to follow a certain schedule. The company offers its service 24/7 so you can always find available work whenever you log in.

The documents that you’ll proofread and edit are resumes, professional documents, academic documents, cover letters, essays, books, and more.

When you review a document, you need to check for grammatical errors, punctuation, syntax, spelling, capitalization, and verb tense.

After completing the proofreading and editing, you need to provide your notes and comments to each client you are working with.

Some clients, especially for those who write academic papers, prefer to work with the freelancer that they have worked with before.

A document is proofread and edited by two separate freelancers that use Executive Editing Style skills. Some proofreading and editing work will have tight deadlines as some clients will need work done quicky.

You get paid for each job that you are able to complete. The amount of money you can earn is not stated on the site.

But the company does say that their proofreader and editors make an average of $500 to $3,000 a month. There’s also no detail on how each freelancer is paid.

What Are People Saying about ProofreadingPal?

The majority of people who tried ProofreadingPal, both clients and freelancers, are happy with their experience with the company. A lot of them recommends using the company or applying to be a freelancer with them.

Of course, there are still some complaints and issues with this opportunity.

One of the issues with ProofreadingPal is that it is not available for everyone. For one, it’s only open to U.S. residents.

Then, you also have to be employed by an accredited U.S. university or at least taking graduate or postgraduate studies there and have a minimum GPA of 3.5

You also need to have a graduate degree and 5 years of experience with professional proofreading and editing. This means that not many people will be qualified enough to be a freelancer with them.

This is understandable since the company only wants the best freelancers and offer the best service to clients.

Speaking of clients, not everyone is satisfied with the service that ProofreadingPal provides.

I saw some complaints about the quality of the work they received from the company. Some said that little change was made to their document and that errors and were still visible. Some even said that their document was worse.

The good thing is that these complaints are few compared to the many positive comments and feedback that the company is getting.

I also saw that ProofreadingPal is quick to address and reply to a lot of these negative comments, so you know the company takes this seriously.

The last issue with this opportunity is that the services they offer seem to be pricey. However, this company offers a top-notch service, so the expense won’t matter to a lot of people.

What I Like about ProofreadingPal

Now that we know what ProofreadingPal is and what they are offering, it’s time to discuss what I like about this opportunity.

  • The opportunity they offer is very flexible. You have the freedom to choose when you want to work since they don’t require their freelancers to be online at certain times.
  • It is free to be a proofreader and editor with ProofreadingPal. You don’t have to pay for anything when you apply to be one of their freelancers. You just need to make sure you meet their requirements in order to be accepted.
  • ProofreadingPal’s reputation is very good, both with workers and clients. Though there are a few complaints here and there, they’re not serious issues. Clients like working with them and freelancers are happy with the opportunity they provide.

What I Dislike about ProofreadingPal

Of course, not everything about ProofreadingPal is good, as there are also things about this opportunity that I don’t like.

  • This opportunity is not available for everyone. Not only will you need to be a U.S. resident to join, but you also need to meet certain professional or academic requirements in order to apply.
  • ProofreadingPal is a bit expensive. Though this might not be a problem for a lot of people, it could be for some clients, particularly students. Discounts or special prices for students could be a welcome option.
  • Information regarding pay is not readily available. If this was available to applicants they could decide whether it is worth applying to the site or not.

Do I Recommend ProofreadingPal?

After learning more about ProofreadingPal and what they offer, I can say that this is an opportunity that I recommend, especially if you meet all of the requirements they’re looking for.

I believe that this opportunity is a good one and there is a lot of evidence that shows this. It’s just a shame that actual figures regarding the pay freelancers get is not made available.

But I think it is possible to earn $500 to $3,000 a month with this opportunity. You likely need to be dedicated and really good at proofreading and editing.

So if you meet all of the requirements that ProofreadingPal is looking for in a proofreader, then I’d advise you to give this opportunity a try.

If you get accepted, you will have the freedom to choose what to work on and when to work. I’m assuming the pay is also worth it since I have yet to see any major complaint.
