What is Contentgather?
Contentgather was started in November 2016 by Royal Media, LLC as a spinoff project for a similar project they started at the same time.
The company is based in the United States and although a relatively new player in the marketplace, they have a combined experience of over 3 decades in this space.
They provide content for website owners who need articles, blog posts, press releases, product descriptions, product reviews, how-tos, tutorials, and more.
Who uses Contentgather for?
There are two groups of people who uses Contentgather.
The first are website owners who are looking for content for their business, and the second, are content writers who want to sell their content to website owners.
Whilst, website owners can order custom made content, the benefit the platform offers, is an ability to buy content right off the shelf – so to speak.
It can take a couple of days for custom content to be created, and in some instances, depending on the business requirement, it’s just not necessary.
So a ready-made solution might be a better fit.
This opens up the opportunity for freelance writers to also benefit.
How Do You Sign Up With Content Gather?
You simply go to their sign up page and enter in a username, password and email address and hit the “Submit” button.
There are a few minimum requirements that you have to meet in order for you to join Contentgather.
According to their website, you have to be at least 16 years of age and English speaking.
You don’t have to live in the United States, or even live in an English speaking country, however you do have to have a very strong grasp of the English language.
It is important to note that all of your work must be original and not found to be listed anywhere else on the internet – for obvious reasons.
What’s The Process Like For Submitting Content?
The minimum word count for a piece of content is 250 and maximum is 1500.
Once you’ve completed your article, simply submit it to Contentgather and a staff member will review it.
Your article will either be approved, rejected or sent back to you for editing.
After it has been approved it gets listed for sale and you will receive a percentage of the projected sale immediately. The percentage you get is based on the writers level you are currently at (more on this below).
If your article is returned for editing, the reviewers will give you guidance on what they need altered, and then, once you complete the changes, it can be resubmitted for review.
It will go through the same process, and as before, it is either approved, rejected or sent back to you for editing.
If you have to submit the article for review more than 3 times, and it is sent back for editing, then the article will be rejected.
Unfortunately, if your article is rejected, it can’t be resubmitted for consideration again.
Once the article is submitted and approved and submitted to the marketplace, it becomes the ownership of Contentgather, unless you remove it from the marketplace before it is sold.
How Do You Make Money With Content Gather?
After you have signed up with Contentgather, you will need to upload an article for sale in the marketplace.
They will use this article as a way to get a baseline measurement of your writing.
In general, your access to acquire custom jobs and advance payments are largely determined by your writer level and writer rating.
Based on the writer level you’re at, you will be advanced a percentage of the projected sale of the article. Once the article sells you will receive the balance of the sale, minus a 20% fee which goes to Contentgather.
There are 5 different writing levels in Contentgather.
All writers start off at the Bronze level and then move up from there as they gain trust in the marketplace and consistency of quality.
Writer Level :
The higher your level, the more you will be allowed to charge for articles, and the more likely you will be selected for high paying custom jobs.
Bronze – at this level you don’t get any advance payments and you won’t have access to many custom jobs. But I have heard of writers quickly moving onto the next level after their first article was sold.
Silver – You will get 5% of the market price. At this level and above you will have access to more custom jobs. You can upload a maximum of 20 articles.
Gold – You will get 7% of the market price. You can upload a maximum of 25 articles.
Platinum – You will get 10% of the market price. You can upload a maximum of 30 articles.
Diamond – You will get 15% of the market price. You can upload a maximum of 50 articles.
These numbers show me that, while the sale of articles are driven by customer demand, the higher the writer level, the more confident they are in selling your article.
There is no limit to how much money you can make, but the number of articles you sell will dictate how much you earn over time.
Writer Rating :
Your Overall Rating is determined based on four different measurements, all of which are ratings themselves:
Content Rating -The average of all ratings you receive for your articles, whether in the Marketplace or Custom Jobs.
Approval Rating – The percentage of Marketplace articles and Custom Jobs approved vs those that are rejected.
Transactions Complete – The number of Marketplace or Custom Job articles sold and accepted by the buyer.
Account Age – The length of time since creating your Contentgather account.
Is There a Way To Fast Track Your Rating?
You can apply for Elite status at Contentgather. If you are accepted, you will receive a significant and immediate boost in your rating and writer level and will gain immediate access to most job requests at Contentgather.
There are only two requirements to become an Elite writer:
- You must be a native English writer living in the US, UK, or Canada.
- You must have an excellent grasp of the English language with extensive talent and expertise as a writer.
How Does Contentgather Pay You?
A pre-requisite to joining Contentgather is to have a Paypal account as this is the only method of payment they use to pay writers for their work.
So it’s mandatory you have a Paypal account, and if you don’t, it is really easy to set one up for free.
When do you get paid?
There is no time frame in terms of when you get paid, but more a threshold that you have to reach in order to access your funds for payment. However, it can take up to 24 hours for Contentgather to process your payment.
What is the minimum payout?
In order to get paid from Contentgather you need to have made a sale and have at least $5 in account before you get paid. This is quite a low threshold to gain access to your money, which is helpful, especially if you want to test whether it’s a viable option for you.
What are people saying about Contentgather?
I have read comments from users on Reddit, who have had a decent experience with Contentgather. One person made over $1000 in the space of 6 months, selling 23 of his submitted articles, which is not too bad.
But, then I have also read other comments from a writer who submitted 5 articles to Contentgather, got all 5 articles rejected, and their account suspended as a result. But, then they submitted the same articles to another content mill who approved them right away.
I don’t know what to make of that, to be honest, other than to suggest that other content mills, have different editorial standards, maybe more lenient, or the writer just got lucky on the day.
In any case, that’s some food for thought.
What I Liked about Contentgather
- I really like the fact that Content Gather provides a platform for you to try and recover costs from work you would not otherwise get paid for.
- I also liked the fact that you get an up front percentage payment for articles you submit until your article sells.
- I like that you can get custom work from a variety of different clients.
What I Didn’t Like about Contentgather
- That Contentgather charges you 20% of the sale price.
- It can take a long time for your articles to sell as this is largely determined by demand in the marketplace.
- The rates for new writers is very low and you aren’t able to gain access to the custom jobs until you move up a level.
- A waste of time if your article gets rejected.
Do I Recommend Contentgather
Contentgather is a legit website, offering products and services to both website owners and content creators.
However, I feel that it WOULDN’T be a good solution to sell your own pre-written content to make money, since the sale of your content is largely determined by customer demand in the marketplace.
It is difficult to know whether your content will be in demand from month to month, which will make it impossible to project future sales, this means you could put in a lot of time and effort and not sell a thing.
It is for this reason I would only use Contentgather as a platform to endeavor to recoup lost potential income.
