Reading books is a favorite past time for a lot of people, which is why there are millions of different books available to choose from.
This is also why a lot of people have hundreds or even thousands of different books in their homes as part of their personal library.
Of course, not all books are interesting to read or appealing to people. There are also books that you will only read once then never use again like school textbooks for example.
Once you have finished a certain level in school, the textbooks you used may become useless, unless you have a younger sibling that you can pass them on to.
So what do you do with your old textbooks? You can donate them to help someone or you can just throw them away, but that would be a waste since you paid for them.
So why not try to earn some money back? How? Well, one site can help you with that and that site is BookScouter.
It’s a site that will allow you to sell your old textbooks to people who are willing to buy them. You will be able to see the various prices that you can get for your textbooks.
The amount of money you can earn here will depend on the kinds of textbooks that you are selling and how many of them you are selling. But is BookScouter really a legitimate opportunity to make money? Or is it just a scam?

BookScouter is a Legit Opportunity To Make Money Selling Old Texbooks
BookScouter is a site that allows people to sell unwanted textbooks to people who are wanting to buy them. The site itself does not buy the books, but they act as a tool that sellers can use to help find the best price for the book being sold.
The site will search the net for the different vendors that are willing to buy the book you are selling to allow you to compare the prices.
You will usually receive the money for the book 1 to 3 days after the vendor has received and checked it. The length of the payment will also depend on the payment option you choose.
From what I’ve seen, BookScouter is a legit site where you can really make some money selling your old textbooks.
The site does help you find the vendors that are willing to buy the books you are selling and at what price. There are, however, some issues with this opportunity.
For one, you can only use the site if the book you are selling has International Standard Book Number (ISBN). Another issue is that you cannot really expect to earn consistent money with this opportunity.
They don’t provide you the different guidelines that vendors have when buying old books. I’ll discuss these issues in more detail as we progress further with this review of BookScouter.
Who Uses BookScouter?
The BookScouter is designed for people who are looking to sell their old textbooks and for those who are looking to buy books as well.
You can buy used books that are still in good quality condition from this website. You just need to provide the ISBN to search the book and you will be presented with several vendors that offer the it.
You will also be able to see the prices that vendors are selling the book for. If you have old books, especially textbooks, BookScouter can also help you with that.
They can connect you with vendors that buy used textbooks, provided the book you are selling meet the guidelines that they have.
One typical guideline that vendors have is that the book should be in new or almost new condition. To buy or sell, you would need to be a registered member in BookScouter.
This is an easy and simple process that is also free. In the next section, I’ll discuss in more details how you can register to this website. I’ll also discuss the process of selling your book.
How Do You Sell Books in BookScouter?
BookScouter offers only one way for you to make some money and that is by selling some of your used textbooks that are still in an almost new condition.
The site doesn’t buy the book from you, but it connects you with the different vendors that are wanting to buy the books you are selling.
You will just need the ISBN of your book to be able to sell it. Before you can start selling, you need to be a member of BookScouter first.
This is easy and simple to do, as you will just be required to provide the required details like your name, email, and chosen password. Once done, you can already start using the website.
Now registration is free, but they do have a Pro version for $29.99 a month. The Pro versions allow you to view the vendors pricing information to make buying and selling more informative.
You will also be able to look up prices in bulk as well as view the historical buyback price. This version is really for serious people who make buying and selling books their business.
Once done, you can start selling your used textbooks. The process is quite simple and the first thing that you should do is to provide the ISBN of the book you are selling.
The website will then provide a list of vendors that are willing to buy the book you and at the price that they are willing to buy it.
The amount of money you can get will depend greatly on the book that you are selling and on the price that the vendor you chose is willing to pay. You will be able to see and compare the different prices.
It’s important that you first check also the ratings of the vendors and the feedback that sellers have. If you like the price that a vendor is offering and the ratings and feedback is good, you can sell the book to them.
Most of the vendors will provide a box and the shipping cost of the book. Shipping labels will likely be provided as well. After the vendor receives the book, they will inspect it first then pay you once it is accepted.
BookScouter categorizes their vendors into three class, the Preferred, the Normal, and the Inactive. In this way, you will be able to tell which vendors that you should look at first and the ones you need to avoid.
Your money can be paid by check or PayPal. PayPal is the fastest method of getting your money, as you can expect to receive it in 1 to 3 days after the vendor has received and accepted your book.
If you choose to get paid via check, it will take longer before you can receive your money. You can also make money by signing up to the website’s Campus Rep Program.
In this program, you can earn money by referring friends or fellow students to BookScouter. The amount of money you can earn, though, was not disclosed, but I’m guessing it won’t be much.
The site also has an affiliate program where you can make money promoting their website or by getting people to sign up, either as a free member or a Pro member. There are no details, though, on how much you can make with the program.
As mentioned above, there are certain issues with BookScouter. The first issue with this opportunity is that you will need an ISBN to be able to sell your books.
Without it, there’s no way for the site to help you see if there are vendors willing to buy your book and at what price. This means you cannot use this site for old or antique books.
Another issue is that the site doesn’t provide you with the vendors guidelines when it comes to the books they buy. They will only provide you the site of the vendor and you have to look for it yourself.
If you’re thinking that this site could be a good source of consistent income, you will be disappointed unless you have a huge library of used textbooks that are still in almost new condition and has an ISBN. Without them you really won’t make a lot of money here.
What I Like about BookScouter
Now that we know what BookScouter is and what they offer, it’s time to discuss what I like about this opportunity.
- The first thing that I like about BookScouter is that this website makes it easier for you to sell your used textbooks that are still in mint condition. A lot of us have textbooks that we don’t use anymore and instead of storing them or letting them catch dust, you can sell them. The site makes this easier by providing you with a list of vendors that are willing to buy your book and at the prices, they want to buy it.
- Another thing that I like about BookScouter is that it offers several opportunities to make money on the site, through their affiliate program and their campus rep program. Though these programs won’t really make you rich, it’s still nice to know you have other options to make money.
- I also like that it is easy and free to be a member of BookScouter. Though they have the paid option, as a free member, you can already start selling and/or buying books on the site.
What I Dislike about BookScouter
As appealing as this sounds, there are also things that I didn’t really like about BookScouter, which I’ll discuss here.
- One of the things that I didn’t like with BookScouter is that you can only sell books that have ISBN. If you have old and antique books, the website cannot really help you since they require the ISBN to be able to get quotes from the different vendors they have.
- Another thing that I didn’t like about BookScouter is that you are on your own when it comes to vendors guidelines on the book they are looking to buy. BookScouter will only provide a link to their website, but you will have to be the one to look for it and check it out yourself.
Do I Recommend BookScouter?
After learning more about what BookScouter is and what they can bring, I can say that this is an opportunity that is worth checking out.
It is important that if you check this opportunity out, you have a large number of used textbooks that are still in new or almost new condition and that they have an ISBN.
If the books you have do not meet any of these criteria, then the website will be useless to you. But if your books meet these criteria, then this site could be a good opportunity to earn extra money and to get rid of your unwanted textbooks.
Just know that BookScouter won’t’ make you rich or allow you to quit your job but it could be a good way to make a little money on the side.
