They saw the potential to earn some money on their way to work and on their way home from work.
The app was so successful for some people that they even decided to be a full-time Uber driver. With the warm reception that Uber received, similar apps have also started and are available in the market.
Some provided a twist, instead of a ride-hailing app, it can be a delivery service app. One such company is the DoorDash app.
It’s a food delivery app, it allows you to order food from a wide selection of restaurants that they cater to. It also offers an opportunity to earn money by being a Dasher, which is the one that delivers the food.
You get to earn for each delivery that you are able to complete and the company also has certain bonuses for achieving a certain number of deliveries.
The amount of money you can earn will depend on a lot of different factors. But the app says it’s possible to make about $15 to $25 an hour with this app.
But is DoorDash really a legitimate opportunity to make money or is it a scam?

DoorDash is a Legit Opportunity that Really Pays
DoorDash is a technology company that is able to connect people with some of the best restaurants in their cities.
They partner with different and well-known restaurants in various cities in the U.S. to be able to deliver the food they are offering.
To do this, the app offers regular people an opportunity to make money on the side delivering food to their respective destinations.
The app pays you per delivery of the food and you also get to keep 100% of the tips that customers give after you have delivered their food.
From what I’ve seen so far, I can say that DoorDash is a legitimate app. It does provide an opportunity for a side income just to deliver the ordered food to their target locations.
There are some issues with the app, particularly, with regards to payment, as a lot of the Dashers have complained about the money they get from the company.
I also saw a lot of complaints from people who used DoorDash, saying the app’s service is very bad. I’ll explain these issues in more detail, as we progress further in this review.

Who Uses DoorDash?
The DoorDash app is designed to be used by three groups with one being the restaurants who don’t have a delivery service
The other ones are people who are looking for a way to have their favorite food delivered to their house, even if the restaurant doesn’t have a delivery service.
The last one are people who are looking for an opportunity to make some money on the side.
For restaurants, DoorDash provides them with an opportunity to have a delivery service. They can choose to partner with DoorDash or just contact the company to request a Dasher to deliver food.
For people who want to make an order to a restaurant that doesn’t have a delivery service, DoorDash has them covered. The app has partnered with a variety of restaurants in different locations to provide a food delivery service.
As for those who are looking for a side business, the company offers an opportunity to make money delivering food orders. You get to earn per delivery that you complete and you also get to keep 100% of the tips.
Becoming a Dasher is simple and free to do so. In the next section, I’ll discuss in more detail the registration process, as well as how you can earn.
How Do You Make Money with DoorDash?
The DoorDash app offers only one way for you to make money and that is by becoming one of their Dashers.
As a Dasher, you will pick up food from a restaurant and deliver it to its target location. You will earn every time you make a delivery and you also get to keep 100% of the tips customers give you.
To begin earning, you first need to register to be a Dasher. It is simple and free to be a member, as you just need to meet certain requirements to be accepted.
The app is also operational in only the major cities in the U.S., you need to be at least a resident of that city to be able to register.
Some of the requirements include being at least 18-years-old, and drivers should not have a major incident like a DUI, reckless driving, etc. in the last 7 years. You should not have any incident as well in the last 3 years.
You just need to provide the necessary information required when signing up. The company will perform some background checks on you before they accept your application.
Once done, you just need to learn the basics of being a Dasher and have the app installed in your mobile device, fix the required settings, and you are ready to go. The activation kit comes with the instructions you need to follow.
Now, the app functions similarly to Uber in that the app will alert you if there is an available order in the area you are located in. You can choose to schedule when you can receive an alert or you can begin immediately.
The alert will provide you with all the delivery details, including the guaranteed amount you can earn for doing the delivery. The company says that you will always receive at least $1 for each delivery that you do.
But they do have a guaranteed minimum to allow you to earn more. This is basically where they guarantee that your pay, including the tips, will exceed a certain amount per hour.
If the hour ends and you didn’t get that amount, the company will shoulder the difference. The guaranteed minimums are only for Dashers who receive the qualifying emails, text, or in-app notification.
To qualify for a guaranteed minimum, you need to sign up for a Dash during the dates, times, and areas offered in the message you receive.
You also need to drop off the specified minimum number of deliveries during this period and average at least 1.3 deliveries in an hour. You should also accept 90% of the orders to qualify.
If you complete all the qualifications but have still earned less than the minimum, then DoorDash will pay the difference.
The app also has a Guaranteed Earnings promotion, where you can earn a guaranteed amount if you sign up using the promotional link.
You just need to be in the zip code where the promotion is being offered and activate your Dasher account within 30 days of starting your application.
Then you just need to meet the requirements to get the guaranteed earning. An example of this is the app paying $500 for completing 50 deliveries within 30 days.
As for receiving your money, DoorDash pays its Dashers on a weekly basis. The app will start processing your payment for the delivers you completed on Monday to Sunday the previous week.
The payment will be deposited to your bank account and it will take about 2 to 3 days before you can see it in your account.
Now, the company provides its Dashers with Red Cards, which you will use to pay for the foods that were ordered. In case the cards don’t work or there’s a problem, you can request reimbursement.
Just take a photo of the receipt and submit it, together with their Help Form. As mentioned above, there seem to be some issues with DoorDash, particularly with the amount of money the Dashers are getting.
A lot of members are complaining that the income they are getting is not that high, especially if you consider the other expenses that they incur like gas, parking, etc.
One comment I saw, says that the app is a decent side income that allows you to earn a few dollars a week. But it’s not worth it as a full-time income since it will be more of a headache.
Another issue I saw with DoorDash is its service. A lot of customers complained about delayed food deliveries and food deliveries that didn’t arrive or were canceled.
There are also a lot of complaints about the customer service of the company, saying they are useless and not much help.
This is really not a good sign for the company, considering its not only the Dashers that are complaining but also the customers.
What I Like about DoorDash
Now that we know what DoorDash is and what they offer, it’s time to discuss what I like about this opportunity.
- The first thing that I like about DoorDash is that the side income opportunity offers flexible hours. You have the option to start receiving orders immediately or schedule the Dash at a time that is more convenient for you. You’re not required to work a certain number of hours in a day unless you are aiming for Guaranteed Earnings promotions.
- Another thing that I like about DoorDash is that it is free to be a Dasher. It’s not like some opportunities where you are required to shell out money for a registration fee. So you don’t have to worry about paying for anything when you join the company to be one of their Dashers.
What I Dislike about DoorDash
However, not everything is good and appealing when it comes to DoorDash, as there are also things that I didn’t like about this opportunity.
- The first thing that I dislike about DoorDash is that the compensation they provide is not that high. A lot of the Dashers are complaining that the payment for doing the deliveries is really low, especially if you’re not part of the Guaranteed Minimum or Guaranteed Earnings promotions. The company itself only promises $1 earning per delivery plus 100% of the tips the customers give. But not all customers give good tips, which is why a lot of Dashers are not happy with the money they get compared to the cost of operating the delivery side business.
- Another issue that I saw with DoorDash is that there have been a lot of complaints from customers about the bad service of DoorDash. People are complaining that the deliveries are usually delayed or they are canceled after being delayed. Then there are also complaints about the company’s useless customer service. This is really not a good sign that DoorDash is doing well since there are complains coming from both customers and Dashers.
Do I Recommend DoorDash?
After learning more about DoorDash and what they really bring, I can say that this is an opportunity that I don’t really recommend.
Yes, the flexible working hours is great and all, especially if you are looking for a side income that can complement your main income.
But that’s the only thing that is really appealing about DoorDash. The compensation you get for delivering food will not always be worth it.
Sure you might be lucky if there will be enough Guaranteed Minimum programs in your area, then you might earn a decent amount here.
But if not, then the money you are earning here will likely just be enough to cover all the expenses you will have with this opportunity.
If you are looking for an opportunity to earn real money, then DoorDash is not what you are looking for. If you are happy earning a few dollars a week in profits, then this app might help you with that.
