Zilok Review: Legit Peer-To-Peer Rental Site Or Scam?

It is not uncommon for people to have a lot of stuff lying around the house or stored somewhere in the attic, garage, or basement.

These items are usually the ones you don’t use anymore but don’t want to throw them out yet since you might find a use for them in the future.

Instead of letting them collect dust and be in danger of getting damaged, why not consider making money out of them?

And no, this doesn’t mean that you are selling them. You are just basically renting them out. Yes, it is possible to have your old stuff rented out to allow you to make money from them.

And it’s a site called Zilok that is making all this possible. It’s basically an online marketplace that connects people who have items to rent out to people who are looking to rent that item.

It’s hard to gauge how much money you can make here since this will depend on the kind of items you are renting out and how many times they will be rented.

But is Zilok really a legitimate opportunity to make money or is it just a scam that you should avoid?

Zilok is A Legitimate Website to Make Money Renting Out Items

Zilok is an online marketplace where people can list the items that they have available for rent or to look for items that they may want to rent.

As an item owner, you have the freedom to set the amount that you want people to pay for the item you are renting out.

It’s important that you also check other similar items so that you don’t overcharge or undercharge for your item. The site will just take a small percentage on each transaction that you do on the site.

Based on what I’ve seen so far, I can say that Zilok is a legitimate opportunity to make money renting out items.

The site is basically just a platform where you can list your items for rent, after that everything else is handled by you. The contract agreement you have and how you want to be paid will be set by you.

I have yet to see any complaints about the site itself from people who have tried it out. But, there are still some issues about the site that I can see.

One is that the opportunity to earn a decent amount of money or not will likely depend on your location. Another issue I see is the possibility of a threat to security.

I’ll discuss these issues in more detail as we progress further in this review of Zilok.

Who Uses Zilok?

Zilok is designed for two types of people with one being those who are in need of items but prefer to rent them instead of actually purchasing them.

The other type are the item owners who have a lot of decent items that they can rent out to people willing to do so.

If you are someone who is need of certain items but you don’t want to purchase them since you will only use them for a certain event or situation, then you could choose to rent them.

Zilok provides this option as the site has listings of various items that are available for rent. You just need to search them on the site.

Once you see an item you like and at the price you prefer, you just pay a retainer fee, which will be deducted from the total rent amount.

If you are someone who has a lot of decent items that you don’t use, then you can choose to rent them out and list them on Zilok. You have the freedom to set the amount you want and how you will be paid.

To use the site, you just need to create an account, which is simple and free to do so. I’ll discuss the registration process in more detail in the next section, as well as how this site works.

How Do You Make Money with Zilok?

The only way you can make money with Zilok is if you have usable items that you are willing to rent out to people who are willing to rent them.

You have the freedom to set your own price on your item and the site will just take a small commission from each transaction.

To access the site’s services, whether you are an item owner or a renter, you need to first create an account. It’s free and simple to register to Zilok and they don’t have any restrictions on who can sign up.

You just need to provide the necessary details when you sign up then you are already set. After creating an account, you can start listing the different items you have available for rent.

Now, it is important that when you list the items you provide an accurate description of what it is. You should also be specific on whether it has scratches or damage.

Supporting documents and images of the item will likely be required as well. You should also provide the proper label and category for the item you list.

It is also important that you provide necessary information like how to properly care or maintain the item.

Zilok allows you to list a lot of different items on the site. However, there are also prohibited items and these include animals and animal by-products, drugs and medical accessories or equipment, firearms and ammunition, and more.

You also have the freedom to set your own rental price and security deposit.

To have an idea of how much your item is worth, check the similar items found on Zilok and see how much other owners are charging for it.

You also have the freedom to set your preferred payment methods. This should be included in your listing as well. Just make sure that the prices you list are in U.S. dollars.

Zilok doesn’t charge any fee for listing items on the site. But, they do charge a commission for every transaction made. The commission charged can be as low as $1 to as high as 5% + $26.6.

The commission will be dependent on how much you are charging for people to rent your item. Zilok also has an evaluation system to help its members.

The site evaluates the owner, the renter, and quality and description accuracy of the rented item.  In this way, the site allows members to see if they are trustworthy or not. As mentioned above, I do have some issues with this opportunity.

My first issue is that your earning potential on this site will likely depend on your location. Let’s say you have a lot of items available for rent and you put them on the site.

But a lot of the renters who are in need of your item are located hundreds or even thousands of miles away. So this will pose some sort of problem. Of course, there’s really no way of knowing this ahead of time unless you try it.

Another issue I have is the possible threat to security. No matter what measures the site takes, you will still need to meet up with complete strangers in person.

Though this is not new anymore, you still can’t always be sure that the person you are meeting is who they say they are. If you are not comfortable with personal meetups, then this opportunity might not be for you.

What I Like about Zilok

Now that we know what Zilok is and what it is offering, it’s time to discuss what I like about this opportunity.

• The first thing that I like about Zilok is that it provides you with freedom on a lot of things. The site basically just provides you with a platform to list your items, but everything else is up to you. Your pricing, payment method, rental contract, and so on. This is good since you are not restricted with certain policies or guidelines, especially about pricing and payment methods.

• I also like that Zilok evaluates the owner, the renter, and the accuracy of the description of the items. This evaluation process protects all members who are using the site. Owners will be able to tell if the renter they are talking to is legit and will actually push through with the deal. For renters, they will know if the owner they are talking to and the item they are looking at are genuine and is really what the description says it is.

• I also like that Zilok is free to use for both renters and owners. Renters won’t need to pay anything to be a member and owners won’t have to worry about paying a regular fee for listing their items for rent.

What I Dislike about Zilok

As appealing as this all sounds, there are also things about Zilok that I don’t really like, which I’ll discuss in this section.

• The first thing that I don’t like is that the potential of this opportunity is likely going to be location based. If you happen to live in an area where there aren’t really a lot of renters for your items, then your income potential will likely be low.

• I also think that the fact that there will likely be a lot of interaction with people, both via phone and in person, will not sit well with some. Not everyone is comfortable doing meetups, especially with strangers.

Do I Recommend Zilok?

After learning more about Zilok and what it really offers, I can say that it is an opportunity that I recommend, especially if you have a lot of usable items lying around that you can rent out.

The idea of making money with items you have at home that you still use but don’t want to sell is too good of an opportunity to pass up.

It’s also a big plus that Zilok doesn’t restrict you with the pricing and payment methods, and you have the freedom to draft your own rental contract.

Yes, the income potential of the site is going to be dependent on your location and there will be a lot of personal meetups, which can potentially be dangerous.

But these downsides do have some solutions, so they’re not really deal breakers. The least you can do is to give the opportunity a try and see if it is a viable option for you.

Now if you are someone who doesn’t really like to do personal meetups or you don’t have a lot of items available for rent, then what Zilok offers is not for you.
