If you’ve been looking for a way to make money from the comfort of your own home then Alorica may provide the solution you’ve been looking for.
The company hires people as call agents, to provide customer service for some of the top fortune 500 companies in the United States. They’re located in Irvine, CA., and currently hire around 5000 work at home agents.
To work for the company you have to get through the application process, pass a background check (which you have to pay for), and have a computer with a robust internet connection for obvious reasons. If you’re a successful candidate, they will provide and pay for your training.
They pay between minimum wage and $10 per hour, so – not so great, but, the benefits of picking and choosing when you work, and the fact that you have no transportation costs, no dress code, etc, may go some way towards making up for this difference.
They have a variety of customer service positions available, and will match positions available to your skill set. So it could be a way for students, retirees and stay at home moms/dads to make money in their spare time if they have the right skills.
Having said that, I do believe that the three groups mentioned above would be better off creating an online business on a part-time basis instead, because the financial potential is so much better.

What is Alorica At Home?
Founded by CEO and Chairman Andy Lee, in 1999, and located in Irvine, CA., Alorica, – previously named West At Home, is a leading provider of Business Process and Customer Satisfaction, according to their website.
They’re involved in the entire customer service lifecycle and as such, outsource some of these processes to work at home freelancers (Yep that’s YOU).
Who uses Alorica At Home?
There are two groups of people who use Alorica, the first group being the companies who need people to provide customer service and the second being the call agent providing the service.
Alorica’s Hiring Process
Most Customer Service reps have to have a minimum requirement of a high school or GED education, a minimum of one year customer service or sales experience and be over the age of 18. Some roles may require additional experience, for example, being able to speak a different language.
In order to work for the company you will have to complete several checks that help them determine whether you’re a good fit for the company.
One of these checks start right away in the application process where you have to fill in an online application form that takes around 45 minutes to complete.
Job Fit Asssement
You will be screened and tested in a Job Fit Assessment to determine what your skills are and what positions they have available that matches your skill set.
Following that, you are also subject to complete a background check that you have to pay for, which, at the time of writing this review was $31.95. The background check will include a criminal history report.
A background check is typical for online call centers, and some will actually reimburse the cost if you’re a successful candidate, but, unfortunately, not the case with Alorica.
You will also have to complete a behavioral assessment.
Automated Online Interview
Following these assessments you will finally have to complete an automated interview that is designed to test that you have the right equipment to fulfill the role, which includes testing screen size, webcam, microphone etc.
After the interview, the company sends you an email to let you know if they want to hire you.
How Does Alorica At Home Work?
You will be required to take customer service calls to help customers with any issues they’re experiencing.
The company provides training and for the most part you are following a set of pre-written scripts that should help solve most problems customers face.
Obviously, there will be occasions where a script may not provide the answer in which case you will need to escalate the issue to management.
Since, you’re paid on an hourly basis, I’d imagine that the call agents software would monitor call duration, actions taken to resolve the problem and final outcomes and feedback from customers on the success or failure of each call.
I’d imagine that these stats go towards the company measuring the performance of each call agent and refining, or providing further training if required.
What Country Is This Opportunity Open To?
When preparing this review, I noticed that you had the option of searching for work-at-home jobs from a variety of countries, including Bulgaria, Canada, Guatemala, Mexico, Panama, the Philippines and United States, however, the only work-at-home roles available were in the United States as Alorica-at-home Customer Service Representatives and Bilingual Customer Service Reps.
How Much Can you Earn?
How much money you earn with Alorica is down to the pay rate, how much time you work and the amount of work available to you.
The different work schedules offer a pay-per-minute rate, work time rate, pay-per-call rate or a guaranteed hourly rate.
Having said that, if your take home pay is less than the minimum wage for your state, then the company will compensate for this, and add the difference in your take home pay.
A lot of people may like the fact that you can pick and choose when you work, and the fact that they can offer you at least 10 hours of work per week, is great if it fits your schedule. But, if you want to work more hours then I understand additional work is available to call agents on a first-come, first-served basis.
This means that you may have to keep checking back with the company from time to time for new service calls.
How Does The Company Pay?
When reviewing this website, I wasn’t able to see whether they pay work at home staff weekly, fortnightly or monthly. Furthermore, I couldn’t see in what form payment was made, but assume that payments would be direct credited in staff bank accounts.
What Equipment Do I Need?
All work at home customer service agents are required to purchase their own equipment to fulfill the role.
The specifications of your equipment needs to fit a minimum requirement so that you can run the company’s software system adequately, when taking calls and servicing customers.
This software system has been developed in Windows, which sucks for you if you have a MAC, because the software won’t run.
Most modern computers these days, fit the profile more than adequately.
Here are the minimum resource requirements.

- Monitor Size: 17 inches or greater
- Minimum OS Version: Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1, and Windows 10
- Minimum RAM: 1 GB or higher
- Minimum Processor Speed: 1 GHZ (1000 MHz) or better on multi-core processors.
1.4 GHZ (1400 MHz) on single-core processors
- Minimum Graphic Resolution: 1024 x 768
- Sound card with speakers or headset for training audio (During call processing a headset that is attached to your phone is required.)
- Internet Connection: DSL, cable, or fiber optic (no dial-up, satellite, or 4G wireless connections)
What Are People Saying About Alorica At Home?
When researching this company I found a variety of comments from people ranging from those who loved working for the company and others who hated working for the company.
Like any job, whether it be online of offline, you will get people who love working for a company and others who don’t.
This is no different from the comments I read from Alorica’s work-at-home agents. Whilst, relevant, they were typical issues that I have seen from other agents who work for similar companies.
One of the more predominant issues was that pay was very low, and I have to agree, it pretty much sucks, however, I believe it’s standard for this industry.
Another issue was that you don’t get enough hours. The number of hours are driven by customers experiencing issues with products or services. Which means, if a company has ironed out most of it’s ongoing issues, or even take products off the market, then the rate of service calls will drop.
What I Liked about Alorica At Home
- If your take home pay doesn’t reach minimum wage in your State, then they will compensate your pay so that it does.
- I like the fact that they give you the opportunity to set your own time of work.
- I like that they offer you a minimum of 10 hours of work per week.
- I like that you can work from the comfort of your own home.
What I Didn’t Like about Alorica At Home
- Although a fairly standard hourly rate, I feel the rate is too low.
- I didn’t like that you have to barter for extra hours on a first-come, first-served basis.
- I didn’t like the fact that people who only have access to a MAC can’t work for the company.
- I didn’t like the fact that you have to pay for the background and criminal history check and not reimbursed even if you pass. Yes, it’s a cost of doing business, but other companies in this space reimburse successful candidates.
Do I Recommend Alorica At Home?
Alorica is a legitimate company to work for as an work-at-home call agent. I feel it is a good way for you to make money if you have the right skills for the job and the right computer equipment to fulfill the role.
Whilst, the pay can be kind of low, the fact that they compensate your pay, should you pay fall below the minimum wage threshold in your State, gives you some peace of mind that you will at least be paid the minimum wage rate.
I like the fact that they pay you to be trained, whether this is standard with other call agent jobs – I don’t know, but nevertheless, good to know.
You may find yourself competing for more work hours if the minimum 10 hours per week is not sufficient, but I feel that, that is part of the job, because work is dictated by customers having problems. If customers didn’t have problems, you wouldn’t have work and vice versa.
That being said, I still feel that Alorica is worth considering if you want to work from home, set your own work times, and get paid doing so. It won’t make you rich, but it does allow you earn at least $100 per week.
