What is Shaklee: Introduction

This company is not that different from other networking marketing opportunities. It’s based on the classic multi-level marketing model that many other companies use to promote their business. The hardest part about making money with multi-level marketing opportunities is recruitment, fortunately, I found a cool program that you can use to generate mlm leads.

Shaklee’s business opportunity is rather simple; use their products, and recruit new members to use the same products, and collect a percentage from everyone’s sales. Of course, before you can become an independent distributor you’ll have to climb through some hoops, most of which involve cash.

The niche is health supplements; vitamins, minerals, protein powders, essential oils, skin care, and much more. If you become an independent distributor you’ll be able to buy these products at retail price and earn a profit, that’s the idea.

Of course, the most lucrative opportunity is customer recruitment. You’ll want to recruit as many people as possible to build a team so that you can earn team bonuses and other rewards, there are many different bonuses that you can win.

So, that’s the business opportunity in a nutshell, selling health supplements for a cut and recruiting new people to your sales team, progress is measured in Point Volume (P.V).

Let’s break it down.

What I Didn’t Like:

For starters, the compensation plan is rather complicated. It was difficult to comprehend the full scope of the compensation system. I found the official compensation details, click here to check them out, it’s called The Dream Plan (keep in mind that report is from 2013 so some of the information might be outdated).

One red-flag that a lot of pyramid schemes have in common is that the company creates a difficult-to-understand compensation plan, and Shaklee’s compensation plan is remarkably similar. Of course, that doesn’t mean the opportunity is a scam.

Secondly, the membership is rather expensive. You can purchase products without a membership but in order to start selling the products as an independent contractor you’ll need to purchase the required membership, which costs $49.95/month.

That’s not too bad, but the best products and features remain locked until you acquire a Gold account, and that costs $299/month and the Plus version is $599/month.

So, in order to qualify for all the bonuses and incentives, a Gold membership is required, and that will set you back a few hundred bucks. Of course, the company promises that you’ll make it all back in no-time as long as you recruit new people and sell products.

In other words, if you want to make money then you’ll have to spend money, and it’s not guaranteed to come back.

Lastly, in my opinion, the products are rather expensive and difficult to sell. There are countless of supplements out there that are much more affordable. I don’t see why someone would want to pay so much for Shaklee’s supplements!

This is important.

If a product is over-priced and there’s not a high demand for it, then it will be really difficult to sell, that means you won’t be able to make much money (since you earn a commission from the total sales). That means you’ll have to continue paying the monthly membership fee even though you are struggling to sell the products, sending more cash down the drain.

Then again, there are many different products that you can promote, but I have noticed that most of them are over-priced compared to standard market rates.

There’s also the issue of promoting the company to your friends. You’re told to hook your friends with promises of riches – essentially selling a dream – just to convince them to sign-up under you. I don’t like the multi-level marketing businesses that push you to sell a dream, it’s a red-flag!

You also should be careful to never take health advice from Shaklee members! They are not doctors!

What I Did Like:

Having said that, there are a few things that I did like about this opportunity.

First, the company has been around for a long time, in fact, more than 50 years! Most companies that rely on a multi-level marketing business model don’t stand the test of time but this one managed to last for a long time!

I also like how the company takes product testing seriously, all the products have been thorough tested. This is important because nowadays supplements are rarely tested and a lot of junk enters people’s bodies without them realizing it.

So, it’s always a good idea to buy supplements from a company that has been in operation for a long time and thoroughly tests their products.

Conclusion:

I wouldn’t say that this company is a scam but I also won’t recommend it. There are many other ways to make money online and offline, much more profitable ways.

So don’t fall for the dream, if someone is shoving pictures of spots cars, mansions, models, and private jets into your face – run the other way!
