[UPDATE August 2015] – FTC Shuts Vemma Down!

What has come to light recently is the FTC has shut down Vemma (temporarily / permanent) over it’s alleged pyramid scheme.

Affiliates were told that they would be able to earn up to $50,000 per week, however some of their top recruits were only earning $13,000 per year.

Recruits had to hand over $600 that was supposedly used for products and business tools, but there was an obvious lack of support in terms of how people should market the products to others.

If you’re new to marketing whether it be on or offline then there’s always gonna be at least one person who says the wrong thing or markets the products in an unethical way.

This appears to be the issue that Vemma is currently facing.

Should this be the companies fault, or the affiliates fault?

Well, it appears that Vemma failed to create clear marketing guidelines and in return failed to create a clear marketing path for it’s recruits, thereby leaving the ethics up to the individual marketer.

One could argue that these guideline should be included in the start up costs.

So let’s see if I can get the math right – $600 initial cost + ($150 for products * 12 months) = $2400.

What Is Vemma?

Did you ever want to recruit people to sell vitamin drinks while taking home a commission of their sales?

Well, now is your chance!

Vemma is a health supplement company that produces a wide range of products, the signature product being “Vemma” a super vitamin drink.

The products are decent and backed with proper research, unlike some other health supplement companies.

The drinks are designed for people who are unable to get their required daily doses of essential Vitamins.

The claim is that the drinks boost immune systems and provide the drinker with an overall improved sense of well-being and life satisfaction.

Anyways, we are not here to talk about health products.

One of the reasons Vemma has become so popular these past few years is because of its multi-level marketing system.

This system works just like other multi-level marketing systems, sell the product, recruit people, and a percentage of your recruit’s earnings are sent to your account, three levels deep.

It’s similar to Juice Plus.

Understandably, a lot of people flocked to this company to take advantage of the money making opportunity and it has been working out fine for most people.

Of course, like most multi-level marketing companies, if you want to earn a lot, then you have to promote like crazy and make sure that your recruits promote like crazy.

In other words, if you don’t know how to market, then you won’t see much success.

So let’s talk a bit about this opportunity and see if it’s a legitimate way to make money online and if it’s worth your valuable time.

Is Vemma A Scam?

But before we continue, I would like to make it clear that Vemma is not a scam.

It is a legitimate company and the products have undergone many tests and passed all of them.

If you’re worried about promoting a dodgy drink for cash, don’t worry, Vemma’s vitamin drinks are excellent, and do contain many essential nutrients.

Of course, that does not mean Vemma is the holy grail of money making opportunities, there are a lot of flaws with the business model, and as such it might not be worth the effort.

Let’s start with the upsides.

How Do You Make Money With Vemma?

There are a few things that Vemma does bring to the table.

For one, the products are backed by actual science research, and have been proven to improve the overall health of customers around the globe.

Secondly, when you sign-up and are approved to promote the products (take part of the multi-level marketing opportunity) you will be given a free business package.

The business package contains general marketing advice that shows people the best way to market these products.

You will also receive a free website and other tools to assist you with your promotional efforts.

The downside, it’s really expensive.

You will have to invest at least $500 into the company before you can start to promote products.

There are a few different packages, which include an inventory of Vemma products, and marketing tools.

You won’t be able to promote the products without purchasing at least one package, the cheapest being $500.

You’ll also need a merchant account which costs $90 a month.

But you will earn it all back, right?

That’s what Vemma promises (if you buy another package for $8,000) but the reality is that you will likely not make your money back unless you are insanely good at marketing health products or spend all your money on more packages.

See, the way these companies stay afloat is by selling packages to clients that promise to double or triple earnings.

Most people, who have cash, will jump at the promise of more cash, and hand over their details.

But most of the time, it takes years to recover from the money spent on the package in the first place.

Basically if you want to make your money back you will have to recruit more people – forget about profit.

I would stay clear of these so called opportunities.

Are There Any Issues With Vemma?

With Vemma, it’s all about the money, if you had the pleasure of encountering one of their marketers you know what I’m talking about.

They’ll tell you how easy it is to make money and whip out a calculator to show you how much theoretical money you can make every month.

What they won’t tell you is how much you will need to spend on these products.

Unless you are a super great marketer, there will always be a negative cash flow.

It’s also not uncommon for Vemma promoters to host presentations at their homes with borrowed cars.

The company claims that if you work hard then you will benefit in more ways than one.

But the question you should ask is “If I’m going to work hard, is this worth my time?”

There are plenty of other ways to make good money by working hard.

Vemma marketers like to make it seem like people who don’t make money with this program are just lazy and don’t want to work hard.

Though I don’t deny most people are not up for hard work, even people who work hard to promote this company see poor results.

All in all, it’s really not a scheme that I would invest my time into.

Another important thing to remember is that marketers aren’t actually paid for the cans of product that are sold.

They’re paid for the people they recruits, based on point system.

So you are essentially selling the products the company while the company makes all the profit and throws a few points in your direction when you recruit a new member.

So, if someone approaches you with Vemma products and pamphlets, don’t entertain them.

It’s not what the company wants you to think. You won’t be driving a Lamborghini in a few months.

The health products are good, though, so at least that part of the company is not bad.

In fact, the health drink has won an award for the best health drink of 2012 which is a notable achievement.

Final Verdict

In a nutshell, this multi-level marketing system is not worth the hassle, unless you are an established marketer.

Otherwise, for people who are just getting started, it is not worth your time, and it will be much more lucrative for you to pursue a different path.
