One such company that does this is called Ebates. It’s a company that provides an opportunity to get cash backs whenever you shop at the stores that they are affiliated with.
You just need to do your shopping through the Ebates.com website to get cash backs. The amount of money you can make here will depend on how often you shop.
But from the looks of it, you can likely earn about $100 or more in a year with this opportunity. But is Ebates a legit opportunity or just a scam?

Ebates is a company that offers people an opportunity to get cash back just for shopping at the stores that they are partnered with.
The company has been doing this since 1999 and they have already helped more than 10 million members earn money. They say that they have already provided over $1 billion in cash back since they launched.
You just need to shop at your favorite store through Ebates’ website to be able to earn cash back. From the looks of it, I can say that Ebates is a legitimate opportunity.
The company does provide you with an opportunity to earn cash back if you shop through their website and there has been little problem when it comes to getting the money earned from Ebates.
However, there are some concerns with this opportunity, for example, the company only allows you to earn cash back from particular items in a store.
There’s also issue when it comes to getting your money, as the company only pays via check or PayPal every three months. I’ll discuss these issues in more detail, as we progress further in this review of Ebates.

Who Uses Ebates?
The Ebates website is designed to be used by two groups of people with one being the retail stores who are looking to attract more buyers into their online shops and to purchase particular items.
The other group are people like you who are looking for ways to make some money while they do their shopping. For stores, the company offers an opportunity to increase their customers through the cash back program.
The program also allows them to increase the purchase of certain items since they can designate the items that will earn people cash back.
For people, Ebates provides an opportunity to get cash back whenever they shop at stores that the company has partnered with.
You just need to shop through the Ebates.com website and purchase the items that are part of the cash back program.
The company will send your money to your Ebate account and you can withdraw it every three months via PayPal or check.
Becoming a member is free and simple to do so and it is available worldwide. I’ll discuss more about the registration process in the next section, as well as how you can earn with this opportunity.
How Do You Make Money with Ebates
Ebates actually offers several ways for you to make money on the website. The main way, of course, is through its cash back program.
You get cash backs whenever you shop at participating stores through Ebates.com. The money you earn can be withdrawn via PayPal or check. The company pays every three months.

After registering, you can start earning cash back whenever you shop at over 2,500 stores. The stores include Amazon, Walmart, Macy’s, and many more.
The process of earning cash back is very simple, as you just need to log in to your Ebates account and just select the store that you want to shop in.
Each store will have its own cash back offer, with some offering as low as 1% cash back, while others offering as high as 10%.
Some stores don’t offer discounts or only offers coupons instead of cash back. When you click on a store, Ebates will show you the different item categories that you can purchase and the cash back you can get.
This will only be done for about 5 seconds, then the site will redirect you to the page of the retail store you visited. It’s important that you access the store’s website through Ebates to get the cash back.
If you go directly to the retail store’s website, the purchase you made won’t be eligible for cash back. Once you have made the purchase, you can expect your cash back within a week.
The company will send an email confirmation stating that they have delivered the cash back.
In case you want to shop offline, you can still earn cash backs. All you have to do is to link a credit card to your Ebates account. Then, you just need to find the store through the Ebates website and link it to your card.
Once done, you can physically visit the store and shop using the linked credit card for your payment. The company also has added a feature for American Express cardholders and VISA Credit Card holders.
AMEX cardholders will get a chance to earn points while VISA cardholders will get a chance to earn additional cash back.
You can also install the Ebates app on your mobile device so you can also earn cash back without the need to visit the website. Take note, that not all stores offer cash back through the mobile app.
You can also install the Ebates Cash Back Button on your computer or laptop. It’s an automated tool that will help you find discounts and if a store has cash back without the need to visit the Ebates website.
You can also earn cash back through email by starting a shopping trip through the emails that Ebates sends you. After clicking a new window will open to let you know that cash back has been activated.
Aside from earning cash back from shopping, Ebates also has a referral program where you and the person you refer can earn more than $25.
The person would just need to sign up through your referral link and make a qualified purchase within a year after joining. Once this is done, you and your friend earn money.
Ebates offers 2 ways for you to withdraw your money and that’s by PayPal or by check. If you want to get your money by check, you need to put an address on your account.
You just need to have a balance of at least $5 to be able to withdraw. Now, the company only allows for you to withdraw 4 times and that is May 15, August 15, November 15, and Feb 15.
The cash back you earned from January 1 to March 31 can be withdrawn in May, then the earnings from April 1 to June 30 can be withdrawn in August, and so on.
The reason for this is that the company wants to avoid a scenario where they have already paid you your cash back and then you suddenly return the item and receive a refund.
It’s unfortunate that this issue will force you to wait this long before you can get your money, but I understand where they are coming from.
Another issue with Ebates is that not all items that the stores are selling are included in the cash back program. Each store designates only a certain item or item categories that they want to include in the cash back.
Though this is already out of Ebates’ control, it would still be better if all items are included to allow people more chance to earn rebates.
What I Like about Ebates
Now that we know what Ebates is and what they are offering, it’s time to discuss what I like about this opportunity.
- The first thing that I like about Ebates is that they have partnered with more than 2,500 retail stores that can offer you cash back. It’s good that the company has a lot of stores on offer where you can earn cash back from. This means that you are not limited to where you can shop and the chances of your favorite store being one of their partners is also high.
- I also like that Ebates provides you with so many ways to get cash back and not just by shopping through their website. You can do it through the app, through installing the Ebates Cash Back Button, through linking a credit card, and through email. It’s good because it means you don’t have to always go through the website to earn cash back when you buy from a participating store.
- It’s also good that Ebates has a referral program, as this will allow you to earn more money even if you don’t shop. You can refer people to be a member of Ebates and make money out of it.
- Another thing I like is that Ebates is available to a lot of countries around the world, which means a lot of people can enjoy the opportunity that the company offers. It also makes it easier for you to refer people into the program.
What I Don’t Like about Ebates
Of course, not everything is good and dandy with Ebates, as there are also things that I didn’t like about this opportunity.
- The first thing that I didn’t like is that you can only withdraw your earnings on certain dates in the year, that the company has assigned. Though I get the reason why they do this, it would have been much better if you didn’t have to wait that long to get your money.
- I also didn’t like that not all transactions made in a store can be considered a cash back transaction for Ebates. It would have been better if they made it that way, as this would allow you to earn more money and earn it faster.
Do I Recommend Ebates?
After learning more about Ebates and what they bring to the table, I can say that this is an opportunity that I recommend, especially if you are a regular shopper of the stores they have partnered with.
The opportunity has more upsides than downsides so it negates everything that I didn’t really like about this opportunity.
Sure, it would be better if you don’t have to wait that long to get your money, but at least you are assured that you will be getting your money.
As for the earning potential, it seems like you can earn more than $100 a year with this opportunity, especially if you are a regular shopper.
The only limiting factor with that is if the items you usually purchase is not part of the cash back program.
